We’re back again! This time we’re opening the doors of our laboratory, after a long time, just to show you how we get our hands dirty! We already brought you here, 30 kilometers away from Milano, Italy. In this space woodworking is not the only thing that matters, but it gains value merging itself with design, art, and illustration. And what we want to show you today is something special, is the birth of a new line of covers: the Pocket Cover Collection. So get all your tools and patience and follow us!
We always wanted to create a cover that was pleasant and useful at the same time. Something that could be the perfect mix of usability and comfort. Something that allows everyone to optimize daily gestures. What’s the first thing we thought about? A pocket within a phone cover, of course!
The challenge was tough. Creating a tiny pocket on the back of an iPhone case it’s not an easy job. Oh, and we also wanted it to be made out of wood! In this case, the approach must be both functional and aesthetic. The wood essence we choose must have some specific features, it should be elastic and resistant at the same time. And looking for the perfect wood requires time, patience and hundreds of tests. So we did.
Finally, walnut was the answer! A nice and veined piece of walnut makes the perfect pocket for an iPhone case. Design process did the rest. A curved shape, lower in the center, is made to immediately recognize the card at first sight. At the bottom, a sinuous groove is a perfect way to push-out the card from the pocket.
We’re halfway now, the pocket is ready and working great, so we need to finish and let the creative part begin! We had to choose among a wide range of techniques for the background of the cases. Printing or laser cutting were all valid options, but we thought that the best way to emphasize the walnut pocket was inlaying some colorful stripes!
So we did, and everything looks great. A playful yet elegant collection to hit your daily routine. This case is exactly what we wanted, the most practical way to have all your needs in one hand, all available in one simple gesture.
