Ckrono: in between mixed culture’s contrasts and rhythm

Ckrono DJ and produces mixes some tunes exclusivelu for Wood'd | Wood'd Uncovered Mag

Ckrono makes you move on the dancefloor, and not only.

You say Ckrono, you say Voodoo Rebel, or Ckrono & Slesh. You talk a good chunk of last decade of underground music straight outta Florence. You’re talking dancefloor evolutions, contaminations in a single reference universe: the rhythm. Recently relocated in Milano, we are happy to introduce you to Ckrono, for a small talk with Wood’d and to enrich with new inspirations our weekly Wood’d Vibes. Play it loud and have a nice journey in music!

Who are you?
I’m CKRONO, I am a Dj and producer from Florence but I moved to Milan 1 year ago. I’m half Japanese and half Italian.

How did you start with music?
Rythm has always been inside me since i was 4 or 5, especially thanks to my father’s origin, who is from Siena: I was a tambourine in my contrada. Then I joined the middle school orchestra at the age of 11 and I played the recorder (contralto, soprano and sopranino) for 5 years and after it became boring i started playing guitar by my own. I started electronic music with DAWs very late, i think around 20 during my first year of university.

What are the main influences on your sound?
My main inspirations are all sort of syncopated music, from African, to Brazilian, to the latin america, salsa, mixed with electronic sounds, the more “western” one. Since I’m a culturally mixed man, different cultures’ contrast is what I like and this is reflected in my music as well. But when i was young I listened to a lot of rock, metal, post rock… i was a headbanger.

What are you currently listening to?
I always have been a “futuristic” listener, meaning that I’ve always hated all kind of retro music. I have been listening to something that should evoke the future, of something never explored, but lately, and I’d say finally, I found more pleasant in listening old african records, or the huge salsa archive from Fania, which was my soundtrack of the past summer. I also listen to some hip hop (95% from US), a lot of baile funk, and… jazz. Yes, jazz for wintertime, salsa for summertime.

Where you draw your main inspirations for this mix?
I tried to imagine all the feelings that the wood evoke in different environment and searched for the music that were matching with those feelings. My keyword for the mix were: nature, calmness, trustiness, confidence.

Whatyou have prepared for Wood’d?
After a quite long research i came with a quite wide mix, not many tracks, but all of them have something special related to wood as material, used both as decoration, instrument, or simply as a live matter in a forest. Some tracks are like paintings, some may become a soundtrack for different individuals interacting in a wooden room.
I really hope you guys enjoy it!
